In the middle of March 1915, the 6th London battalion landed in France as part of 4 Brigade, 2nd London Division. They then joined 6 Brigade, 2nd Division for trench instruction under 1st King’s Royal Rifle Corps in the trenches opposite Cuinchy and the notorious “Brickfields”. On 2nd April, ‘A’ Company undertook a 24 hour trench tour and the battalion suffered its first casualty. The next day, 3rd April, ‘B’ Company relieved them for another 24 hours during which time Ernest Myer was killed by shrapnel. |
